Tips for selecting ergonomic desk chairs and accessories for your home office.

Many of us are now working from home, most if not all, days of the week. We are now finding out that the seating used for us doesn’t meet our needs anymore. That is the reason why now is a good time to seek out ergonomic desk chairs for your home office.
Most of us are now finding ourselves sitting for 6, 8, 10, or more hours a day. When working in the same position using the same seating, comfort and ergonomics should be paramount.

Desk chairs that have worked for occasional use in the past don’t work anymore.
A $29 desk chair is not near as ergonomic as a $129 desk chair, but to have a chair that doesn’t hurt your neck or back, you should plan to spend much more.
You get what you pay for when you are talking about home office furniture, and a low-price desk chair will not cut it for all-day or all-night use.
The features alone make spending a bit more for a good ergonomic desk chair worth the additional cost. Your neck and back will thank you.
A chair in the lower price points has a design to accommodate occasional use. The chair may allow some comfort if you’re sitting there for an hour or two, but not much more.
Once you get in the higher price points, you get many features that you can’t get on the less expensive chair.
First and foremost, in the higher price point, you get durability. Especially in these changing times, where we may see ourselves working from home more often, durability is necessary.
There is nothing worse than getting a new desk chair and then realizing about halfway through the first year of owning it that you need a budget to get a new one yet. Very frustrating, and with all the different models available very time consuming during the research.
The big reason you want to do your research and consider your sitting patterns and how you will be using the chair is to make sure that it will accommodate your needs ergonomically.
Most, if not all, of us, have set on a chair too long at one time or another. Sitting long enough to find our back, the hips, or side hurting or sore. Maybe a sore neck even.
Perhaps you’re getting tired of sitting where you find your wrist hurting as you type for any length of time. That could be because of ergonomics. And it can be dangerous since it could lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.
Having made the mistake of saving a couple of dollars by buying not the best desk chair because of the desire to save money, I believe I have learned my lesson.
The chair that I invested in for my own home office is below. If you read the description, it offers many features that a less expensive chair would not have.
My Ergonomic Desk Chair in My Home Office
- ★ MORE ADJUSTABLE THEN ANY OTHER CHAIR IN ITS CLASS — Unlike the office chairs sold by our competitors, which allow you to either fully recline or sit upright, we have a SECOND adjustment lever that allows you to lock in your desired recline angle at ANY degree. - ★ BREATHABLE MESH - The breathable mesh back on this ergonomic office chair provides support while keeping your back cool and comfortable. Cool air circulates through the mesh keeping your back sweat-free and allowing you to sit in the chair comfortably for longer periods of time compared to traditional chairs

Instead of having regular rollers, this chair has wheels as you would have on roller blades, so they move very quickly almost on any flooring surface.
As well as height-adjustable, the arms also will move up and down independently of one another. Having adjustable arms allows the chair to go under the desk properly and have adequate support when typing or doing other work at my desk.
Since I set up my desk quite a lot, I have to have a good cushion, and this one is quite firm, which is what I like.
The back is mesh, which allows it to be very cool, which is excellent since I run the gamut with hot flashes one minute and then cold the next—the benefits of getting older.
The desk chair that I selected also has lumbar support that is adjustable in height and pushes against the back. That is probably one of my favorite features.
And the last two items are what I thought was not a big deal, but I have found to be rather significant.
I like that I can adjust and lock the back to be straight up and down on the chair. It allows the chair to be close to my back when I’m typing. When talking on the phone, you can adjust it to lean back and be more relaxed. As I said, I didn’t know that was a feature that I desired until I had it.
The last feature that I like about this chair is the headrest. It is adjustable for height and how much it pushes against the back of my head and neck. That’s been a great feature, especially since some days I am in my office nine hours or more and can develop a lot of pain in my neck if I’m not careful.
Of course, there are many other options available, and below are some of the best-selling desk chairs that I Amazon offers currently.
Best Selling Home Office Desk Chairs
When doing your research, you want to make sure the chair you select has the features above that you might need and look for others in the reviews not mentioned here. Quite a few options are available, depending on the price point.
One additional item you might want to consider is if the chair will see use by other parties other than yourself? If so, you want to consider a chair with perhaps more height options than the chair that I selected. Even though I’ll be honest, I think it would work for varying body types.
One consideration not often discussed is if you go into the specifications, you’ll see that some desk chairs with designs for parties in specific weight classes. I never did think about that, but you may want to consider that.

Of course, if you have a standing desk, you also want to select a chair according to that need.
Chairs for Standing Desks
In my case, I know they make a standing desk chair for people who use their standing desk at least 50% of their day. I know that I should, but I don’t. I’m still working on that part of my New Year’s resolutions.
But if you use your standing desk correctly, you might survive by having this style of chair. It acts as your standing desk chair and your chair that you do work like writing.
One word of what I guess I would say caution with this style chair is that it is more of a lean-to chair for when you are standing up. It is more a firm chair that holds you up much like a stool when you sit down on it. It’s great for core exercises since it does shift back-and-forth.
However, a standing desk chair like this one I would not say would fit most people’s idea of being their only desk chair since it is not that comfortable if you are writing or talking on the phone a portion of your day. That’s where I think a more conventional desk chair shines.
For me, what I did is I have both. Since my conventional desk chair moves so quickly off the chair mat that I have, I’m able to push it off to the corner of my office, and then since the standing desk chair is not very heavy, I can move it into position. This way, I have the best of both worlds!
Well, that’s just a couple of the considerations you want to get when you’re selecting a new desk chair for your home office. There are many others, and I might suggest reading articles on ergonomics for those considerations.
Before purchasing any new ergonomic desk chair, you want to review the specifications and read reviews to make sure you make just the right selection.

Don’t Forget Your Chair Mat
Also, don’t forget that when you order your desk chair, make sure that you also consider that you might need to get a chair mat for that. This mat is the model I have right now, and it is by far the best that I have ever had. It works well for both standard sitting postures as well as standing desk stances.
In Closing
So do you plan on upgrading your seating shortly? Perhaps you have already selected a desk chair that will meet your needs. Will you use it only at your home office, or maybe take it or buy a second chair for your business office also? Any other considerations not mentioned above proceeding that somebody should consider?
